Rising medical costs are straining employee benefits but are these changing how people seek healthcare? Our 2025 Health Insurance Survey reveals what employees really think about their coverage, and why employers must act now to keep benefits sustainable.

In this 2025 Health Insurance Survey conducted by MSIG Singapore, we checked in with clients to capture their perspectives on health insurance and employees' experiences.

Here are some of the dominant themes from the survey.

  1. Health insurance remains a crucial component of employer-sponsored insurance programs. 100% of respondents ranked Group Medical as the most important coverage.
  2. Most employees are satisfied with their health benefit plans. However, there are significant concerns about rising medical costs, with 97% of respondents concerned about medical inflation affecting their group benefits premiums.
  3. The survey also highlighted that rising premiums may not influence employees' healthcare-seeking behaviour. 77% of employers do not actively encourage telemedicine services.  It was found that 48% of their employees prefer private healthcare settings, with only 4% indicated preference towards public hospital.
  4. As a consequence of the employees’ usage, health insurance costs are creating a significant financial burden for corporations. 81% of respondents indicated a 10% to 30% increase in their annual health insurance premiums. However, 52% of respondents are not open to implementing co-payments and sub-limits to contain premiums.
  5. To rein in high medical costs and subsequent rise in health insurance costs, preventive services will play a crucial role in improving overall health outcomes.  Currently, 42% of employers invest in wellness programs and preventive care, while 26% plan to do so in the future.
  6. The ongoing financial strain on health insurance will persist without intervention. Employers and insurers must work together to implement cost-effective solutions and ensure sustainable health benefits for all.
